As an employee at "Party City" told me this week "our tiki section isn't in season yet," I actually beg to differ. It might be December but it's definitely tiki season. I mean tiki bars have Christmas lights up all year round. And who doesn't want a tropical cocktail when it's cold outside? I rest my case.
So even though December 23rd is sometimes referred to as "Christmas Eve Eve" or for the "Seinfeld" fans, Festivus, I think there is still room for another hybrid holiday for this particular date. And I'm calling it "Christmastikkah." It's the fusion day to celebrate Christmas and Hannukkah through all things tiki.
My friend group got together to celebrate this new tradition through doing a White elephant gift exchange, a make-your-own-tiki-drink bar, eating pork tacos, playing the Santa hat movie game to the "The Night Before," and of course we were in our best ugly holiday sweaters. The gifts were hilarious, the drinks were very bright, the tacos were damn tasty, the game was endlessly entertaining, and my friends brought their A game when it came to their ugly sweaters. If that's not a way to kick off Christmas and Hannukkah, which concidentally fall on the same days this year, than I don't know what is.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmastikkah!
